The Samelin 2077 is what happens when a boot with fifty years of NATO military service gets a structural upgrade without abandoning what made it worth upgrading in the first place. Same full-grain leather construction, same Estonian factory, same NATO AQAP 2110 and ISO 9001 certification — combined with a thicker 2.8–3 mm leather upper and a dual-layer molded sole that makes the 2077 noticeably lighter and more flexible underfoot than the original M77.
If the M77 is the classic, the 2077 is the version you choose when you're going to be on your feet all day.
What's Different from the M77
The 2077 makes two meaningful changes to the M77's proven design:
Thicker leather upper: 2.8–3 mm. The M77 uses 2.2–2.4 mm full-grain leather. The 2077 steps up to 2.8–3 mm — denser, more abrasion-resistant, and more protective on rough terrain. Thicker leather takes slightly longer to break in but lasts proportionally longer and offers better structural support.
Dual-layer molded sole. The M77 uses a single-layer direct-injected PU sole. The 2077 uses a two-layer system: a structural PU base for durability and grip, combined with a lighter, more flexible top layer that cushions each step. The result is a sole that flexes more naturally with foot movement — less fatigue on long patrols, extended hikes, or full working days.
Everything else — the leather lining, the Cambrelle tongue, the anatomical insole, the lacing system, the NATO certification — carries over unchanged from the M77.
Construction & Materials
Upper: 2.8–3 mm full-grain natural leather, water-resistant, breathable, and designed to break in to the shape of your foot over the first weeks of wear. Full-grain retains the original hide surface — denser and more naturally waterproof than corrected or split-grain alternatives.
Lining: Natural leather lining with a Cambrelle tongue. The leather lining regulates moisture and shapes itself to the foot over time; the Cambrelle tongue manages airflow at the flex point where most boots trap heat.
Insole: Anatomical, antibacterial, breathable, and machine-washable. Provides shock absorption and arch support for extended wear. Replaceable when worn through.
Sole: Dual-layer molded construction — PU base for durability and ground traction, lightweight molded layer for cushioning and flexibility. Significantly more flex than a single-layer sole across the ball of the foot during a long day.
Break-in period: Like all premium full-grain leather military boots, the 2077 requires a break-in period — typically 1–2 weeks of regular wear. After that, the leather has shaped itself to your feet and the boot becomes notably more comfortable than a synthetic alternative that felt soft on day one but degrades within a season.
NATO AQAP 2110 & ISO 9001 Certified
The 2077 is manufactured to NATO AQAP 2110 and ISO 9001 quality management standards in Samelin's Estonian factory — the same facility that supplies boots to active NATO armed forces across Germany, Norway, Finland, Latvia, and Estonia. AQAP 2110 is not a self-applied marketing claim; it is an independently audited procurement standard that governs materials, production processes, stitching strength, and sole bonding. Boots that fail inspection don't leave the factory.
Four Seasons, All Terrain
The 2077's natural leather upper provides insulation and weather protection across a wide temperature range. In extreme cold, the boots are compatible with insulated inner socks — adding a thermal layer without needing to size up, provided you ordered at your standard size or slightly larger.
The dual-layer sole performs well on mud, rock, wet urban surfaces, snow, and mixed terrain. The 2077 is not a dedicated mountaineering boot, but it is a serious all-terrain performer in the conditions that NATO-standard boots are tested against.
Who the 2077 Is For
Active-use professionals: Military, law enforcement, security, and field workers who need a NATO-certified boot that holds up across extended shifts and demanding terrain — with more comfort on the move than a traditional single-sole combat boot.
Hikers and tactical outdoor users: The dual-layer sole and thicker leather upper make these a credible choice for multi-day trails and expedition use. The break-in period means they reward commitment — wear them in before a long trip.
Buyers upgrading from the M77: If you already own the M77 and want a lighter, more flexible version of the same boot with a thicker upper, the 2077 is the natural next step.
Unisex sizing EU 36–48: Available across the full Samelin size range for both men and women.
M77 or 2077 — Which One?
Both boots are made in the same Estonian factory to the same NATO standards. The choice comes down to what you prioritise:
- Choose the M77 if you want the original proven design, the classic single-layer sole, and the thinner 2.2–2.4 mm upper that breaks in faster.
- Choose the 2077 if you want a thicker, tougher upper and a dual-layer sole that delivers more flex and cushioning on long days.
